Tu B'Shevat Jewish Yoga

Tu B'Shevat Jewish Yoga

Welcome to the month of Shvat. Tu B'Shevat, falling on the 15 of Shevat, is the holiday celebrating the New Year for the trees. It marks the awakening of the inner sap, the beginning of the ascension of the life force up the trees that were dormant all winter. Taking place in the dead of winter, Tu B'shevat is a subtle seasonal shift that we don’t see externally, but marks the resurrection of life and beginnings of Spring. Just like the plant kingdom shifts from death to life, we have the opportunity to begin a new phase of our own healing journey. Just like the trees experience a period of hibernation, and then a return to vitality, we also experience this dynamic shift. May the Saraf (Sweet Nectar of Life) Rise Up this Shevat!

Below are 4 yoga videos to practice during the month of Shevat.

  1. This is a 50-minute flow connecting to the 4-parts of our Tree: our roots, trunk, branches and fruit, for “wo/man is a tree of the field.”

Allowing the Tree of Life to express through us, this introspective dive into our parts is a great way to harness the potential of this pleasurable month, culminating in Tu B’Shevat on the 15th of the month. A knowledge of the Kabbalistic Sefirot is helpful, but not necessary for this class.

No props or blocks necessary. Chodesh Tov!

2. Here is a 1-hour outdoor yoga flow for Tu'BShevat to celebrate the Trees. This is the month where, despite the trees being in a deep slumber, we connect to the hidden life force that continues to flow through them – priming them for the blooming in the coming spring. We’ve just welcomed in the new year, and are now shifting towards the holiday of Tu B’shvat – so let’s look to the trees to guide us and root us.

In this month’s yoga session, Jenna (@breathandsoul_jenna) takes us through a practice from the Jerusalem forest, which invites you to connect to the wisdom of the trees around you, and bring your body into alignment and openness through tree poses, breathwork and more.

This moment beckons us to bring energy into our bodies, so that new life, new creativity, new ideas, new ways of being can emerge!

3. Below is a 1-hour Tu B'Shevat Yoga flow inviting in the energy of the 7 Species of Israel in relation to the 7 emotional Sefirot.

4. Connect to your roots, trunk, branches and fruit for the holiday of Tu B'Shevat in this 20-minute teaching and meditation.

5. 1-hour Jewish Yoga Flow for Tu B’Shevat. This was Jenna’s very first yoga video ever! Strengthening: HIPS, LEGS, CORE Connect to Jenna Zadaka and explore more Jewish Meditation & Yoga content at www.breathandsoul.net or connect on instagram @breathandsoul_Jenna
